Vitamins and minerals don't always receive their due, but the reality is that they keep you healthy and functional while also protecting you from a variety of ailments.


Vitamins are chemical compounds that may be found in both plants and animals. They're commonly referred to as "essential" since just a handful, such as a vitamin D, can be synthesized by the body on its own. As a result, we must obtain them from meals.


Minerals, on the other hand, are non-living inorganic components found in rocks, soil, and water. They are obtained indirectly through plant foods that have absorbed them from the soil or from animals that have consumed certain plants.


There are two types of vitamins and minerals. Vitamins can be either water-soluble or fat-soluble, meaning that the body excretes what it doesn't absorb and stores the rest in fat cells.


Water-soluble vitamins include vitamin C and the B-complex vitamins (1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 12). A, D, E, and K are fat-soluble vitamins.


Minerals are divided into two categories: major and minor. Majors aren't always more essential than minors. It just means you require more of them. Copper is a trace mineral whereas calcium is an example of a significant mineral.


Following all of the daily required quantities listed in the government health recommendations might be difficult. It's far easier to follow this single piece of advise instead: Fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes, whole grains, dairy, and meat should all be included in your diet.


Supplements may be beneficial if you're lacking in a particular nutrient or if your doctor advises you to increase your consumption of one or more.


Otherwise, your diet should be able to provide you with all of the nutrients you require to be functioning and healthy.
